How I have addressed the target audience and gotten them to "buy" my media product

Before i created my music magazine I produced a Questionnaire to find out what the general public would want from a magazine such as price, Questionnaire (link to the questionnaire)

Price:

 In my questionnaire I asked how much people would be willing to spend on a magazine, this
allowed me to determine the price that the general public or my target audience would be willing to pay for the magazine so I knew what price to label it as. The majority of people who answered my questionnaire said they would want it priced at around the same price as the other popular magazines.


How many issues a month:
I asked in my questionnaire how many music magazine people would buy a month if they had to, the response was 1 per month however when creating my magazine this wasn't important as on my front cover I have just put the date of the release of the magazine.


Content:

In my questionnaire I asked what contents the public would generally want in a music magazine and the
results showed that the most important to people was the latest news about bands, reviews and news about any any new songs or albums and news about any tours including news about dates for when bands tour as well as festivals

So the main sections of my magazine include: News, Reviews and a Gig guide, these are what I included on my contents page. As its what people said they wanted when they answered my questionnaire

I have also included popular bands in my magazine (System of a Down) as well as the one I made up for my magazine (The Godfathers),

I added known bands as as they are popular and people wanted to see their favourite bands in magazines so I added in plenty of popular bands to appeal to those people as well as some lesser known bands.

This is a video that goes with my genre of music  magazine and the video uses a basic colour scheme of black and white so i used this to go with my magazine, that is why i used a grey colour as a background for my double page spread and my front cover and also used it on a part of the contents, 

I also used a black and white effect on my images that i used on my double page spread like its used in this video.

As you can see the grey colour scheme that i used for the background and I also used a dark colour scheme which helps the yellow font i used to stand out to readers and to be eye catching and make things stand out among the dark colour scheme i used on my magazine.

I have continued with my colour scheme into my double page spread with the images on the page being in black and white as well using the yellow text to make it stand out amongst the dull coloured text

My target audience is mainly teenagers or adults so I have included a young actor on my double page and front cover, however I didn't include my main actor wearing a hoodie or holding a weapon, this would be seen as stereotypical of rock as a genre.

From the last progress post I have added in an image and I have also changed the layout again.

I have changed the layout again as well as changed the colour of the text such as changing the questions to a yellow font and i have changed where i have the quotes which iv placed in the corners of the pages. Between this version and my next version of the pages i will add in more questions as well as in add in a image (the ones i had didn't work well with the layout and it looked just out of place among the pages).

I have changed the layout so far its just text and i haven't added in any images to do with the story. I have chosen to go for a "interview style" layout with my text.

New Pictures Taken

I have taken some pictures to use specifically for my double page spread as the ones I already had didn't fit well enough I didn't feel, so I took a variety of images with different things in the background of the images to try get a good image that would fit in correctly and look good to use on my double page spread. These are a few of the images:

I have changed the background colour of the image at the top of the page, I have also added in a subscription box to make it look more "busy" and not as plain.

This is the basic layout of my contents page so far, I still have to add in an image as well as text and I still a lot to do with my contents page.

Magazine Cover Final

I have added in more text around the main image since the last progress post. I may still change it however, the text at the top banner I might change the colours so it stands out more, I may also change the use of the font I have used for the stories around the main image.

I have changed The main image on my cover so there is no text overlapping the main persons face, I have removed the cover lines as a result so I'm going to get new ones to replace them and have a better font as well. I have also added a background colour so the cover as well so it doesn't look as plain, I have however kept some features from the previous draft such as the two banners at the top and bottom of the cover.

This is the progress so far on my magazine cover, I have added moved things around on the page as well as removed the banner at the top of the cover, I have also added in the headline and text underneath it.

This is my new magazine and the progress I have so far on my cover and I obviously still have things to change and to finish off and edit as well.

Production Log: Equipment/Clothing

During the photos I have taken I have used the same camera which is the camera on the 'Samsung Galaxy S2'

The clothing used in my images where mostly hoodies, and t-shirts

When taking my images i used several locations however the images i did take where not what i wanted on my magazine so i used different locations.

The first images taken where taken around Liverpool City Center.

The second set of images (the newest) where taken in a car park and in front of a green screen.

I have retaken my images for my music magazine. I have decided to do this because the first photos I took didn't match the genre of the magazine I am making and they just were not that good to use on my magazine anyway. Below are the actors i used for my photos that i will use on my magazine.

Logo Designs for my magazine

I have both chosen my final magazine name which is "Full Music Blast" or "FMB"

I have also chosen a couple of designs for my logo.

 

New Magazine

I have decided to redo my draft and this time to get better pictures along with using a more appropriate cover and putting effort into it this time around. I have already got new images to use and I have got the new logo and I have a "special style" I think will look much better and still have that "grunge" feeling. I will also be using 'Kerrang' Magazines as a template of sorts as that magazine is the most popular rock magazine.

Magazine Mock Up Evaluation

After creating my magazine mock up there were still a few things that annoyed me about it or things i just didn't add or do how i feel i should have....

Things i will change for my final version are:

• I'd create an actual logo not just some text saying "Flocker" to make the cover look better and more "professional"

• Have something going on in the background to make it look better but i couldn't think of anything while i was making it that would be good i did get a few ideas after i finished it though such as destroying musical stuff like an amp or something like that.
• Not have it as text heavy, i want to make the text just look better to the eye as i think it looks way too text heavy as it is now so i will change this.
• Try find a better font and a better font size to use as i didn't like what i used in my mock up.
• Make it look more like a rock magazine in general or more like an actual Kerrang magazine.
• Try make it look more professional
• Try to settle on a house style with the colours 
• Add in more pictures in the corner or something
• Make the cover look better

Iv tried to not rant about how much i hate the mock up i created but ill make sure my final version is better in the ways listed above as well as any other improvements i think of between now and then.
